What is Taji Quan?
Taijiquan is a branch of the traditional sport of wu-shu. As a means of keeping fit and preventing and curing diseases, it has been widely practised among the Chinese people since the 16th Century
How can it help you?
Taiji Quan requires a high degree of concentration with the mind free from distractions. The movements are slow and uninterrupted like a flowing stream. Breathing is natural, sometimes involves abdominal respiration, and is performed in rhythmic harmony with body movements. From the viewpoint of sports medicine, these characteristics are important factors contributing to the prevention and treatment of diseases
What style will you learn?
In 1956 a simplified set of Taijiquan based on the most popular sequences of the Yang school was issued by the Chinese government to try and improve the health of the nation. This series consists of 24 forms which progress logically from easy to difficult and take 5 minutes to complete.
What should you wear?
A comfortable, loose tracksuit, thin 'plimpsoles' rather than thick soled trainers. Taiji Quan is taught outside when ever possible so please dress appropriately
