What is a Bike Bio-Mechanical Analysis?
A bike bio-mechanical analysis aims to both help with injuries as well as improving performance on the bike. A physiotherapist will assess your own bike set up on a stationary trainer, as well as assessing how your body is using your bike. For example if your set-up has an overextended reach then you may be prone to elbow and neck problems and your ability to effectively climb up hill out of the saddle may be compromised.
What can I expect on my first visit?
The physiotherapist will measure different angles and distances of your body on the bike as well as muscle length, muscle power and muscle balance and how this relates to your cycling. If there are no changes needed to your bike set up they will assess your technique on the bike in different positions and speeds and formulate a plan to correct any imbalances/technique flaws. If changes are needed you will be given recommendations for adjustments to be made.
What can a bike bio-mechanical analysis help to treat?
Any problems with pain or discomfort while cycling. It can also be used to improve your performance if you are competing.
