What is RESTORE Scar therapy?
As your body heals after an injury, surgery or burn scar tissue forms. Scar tissue is fibrotic, less functional, and less mobile than the tissues prior to the injury/surgery.
Within the scar tissue adhesions may form, sticking together layers under the skin. The adhesions and lack of mobility in the scar tissue can cause pain and tightness.
Who can benefit from Scar therapy?
Any patients having been through any of the following:
- Post hip and knee replacement.
- Post hand surgery.
- After breast surgery.
- Post abdominal surgery.
- Skin grafting and burn injuries.
- Deep cuts or wounds.
Treatment can help reduce symptoms related to your surgery or injury, for example: pain, sensitivity or numbness, limited joint movement, or tightness, pulling or puckering.
When can I start scar therapy?
RESTORE scar therapy treatment can start from 8 weeks post injury/surgery provided the scar is healing well and GP/Consultant is happy with progress.
Treatment is effective in older scars too, it's never too late to benefit from scar treatment.
